함바:일시적 연대 Hamba:The Temporary Soliderity, Installation, 2010
<함바: 일시적 연대>는 모든 동시적으로 일어날 수 없는 것들이 공존하게 되는 장소와 그 풍경을 고민하고, 한번도 함께 존재한 적이 없는 이들의 만남과 연대를 상상하기 위해 계획되었다. “함바”라는 말은 토목, 건설현장에 남아있는 일본어에서 시작된 은어로, 원래는 "토목 공사장, 광산의 현장에 있는 노무자 합숙소"를 이른다. 일본어 표기를 읽으면 '한바はんば(飯場)'가 되지만 현재 한국의 건설현장에서는 '함바집'으로 통용되며 현장의 건설 노동자들의 식사를 대는 간이 현장식당을 이른다. 매우 한시적으로만 운영되는 식당인 함바집은 건설현장이 시작될 때 생겨났다가, 현장을 철수할때 그 용도와 생명을 다한다. 이러한 한시성에도 불구하고 건설현장의 어느 곳 보다도 가장 다양하고 많은 사람들이 오가고 모여드는 장소이자 ‘식사’를 통한 가장 보편적 인간의 욕망과 삶을 나누는 장소라 할 수 있다. 작가는 지난 6월 인천 송도에서 있었던 전시 “유령 The Invisible” 에 참여하면서, ‘함바집’의 이러한 장소적, 내용적 함의로부터 글로벌자본의 욕망으로 건축된 “송도국제도시”의 풍경을 새롭게 그려 내고자 한 바 있다. 이번 경기창작센터의 오픈스튜디오 기간 동안 다시 시도되는 동명의 프로젝트는 창작센터내에 놓여진 두개의 ‘평상’을 가장 중요한 오브제로 삼고 있다. 작가는 지역공동체의 풍경에 빠짐없이 등장하는 평상과 같은 공공재의 자발적 존재하기와 민주적 쓰임을 적극적으로 전유하면서 평상위에 연출된 ‘함바집’, 혹은 ‘일시적인 연대’의 장소를 관객들에게 제공하고자 한다.
is planned to consider a place and its landscape which all that cannot happen simultaneously become to co-exist, and to imagine people's encounter and soliderity who have never been together. As slang derived from Japanease remained in civil engineering and construction sited, the word of "Hamba" originally means "a laborer training camp in civil engineering and mines on-site." While reading a japanease writing is 'Han Ba はんば(飯場)', it is now used 'Hambajib' in construction sites of Korea and indicates a snack bar on site to cook meals for laborers on the construction site. A Hambajib run only temporary is born as a construction starts on site and ends its use and life when the site is taken down. Despite this temporariness, it is a place where more many and diverse people come and go and gather than any other place, as well as a location where they share the most common human desire and life by means of 'dinning'. From an undertone of this place and content, the artist tried to describe the landscape of "songdo International City" in a new way constructed with the desire of global capital when participating in " The Invisible" exhibition held in Song-do, Inchoen in last June. The project of the same title tried again during this Open Studio of GCC makes two 'low wooden benches(Pyeong-sang)' placed in GCC as the most important objects. The artist intends to provide "Hambajib" created on a low wooden benches, or a place "the temporary solidarity' for viewers, exclusively prossessing voluntary existing and democratic use of such public materials as the low wooden bench which never fail to appear in the landscape of local community.
